CA Beaches
- 1,000 Steps Beach
Not many CA beaches have a bunch of steps from the highway to the beach, but this one certainly does. Have fun counting them (there are not quite 1,000!). Not real practical for bringing young children and all that goes with entertaining them at the beach. It is still a great place for spending a quiet day by the ocean.
- Abalone Cove Beach
Located at the base of a steep cliff the rocky beach of Abalone Cove is popular for surfing and diving. An easily accessible dirt path leads you to to the beach with ample parking facilities. Restrooms, lifeguard services, and picnic tables are also available.
- Abbotts Lagoon
The beauty and remote location of Abbotts Lagoon's make it an attractive destination for weekenders. The lagoon quickly fills with bird watchers, hikers, picnickers and beachcombers, and other naturalists who enjoy the unadulterated beauty.
- Agate Beach
This 6.6 acre park provides access to almost two miles of shoreline at low tide. Together with the adjacent Duxbury Reef, the site provides a wonderful opportunity to explore marine life filled tidal pools Because the beach is located withing the Duxbury Reef State Marine Sanctuary, collecting is not permitted.
- Alamitos Bay Beach
At Alamitos Bay Beach, you'll find lifeguards on duty in the summer. This beach is not readily known outside the local area as there are no hotels along the Long Beach peninsula where the beach can be accessed. As the long, warm days heat up the beach activities, the cooler nights are a perfect set up for a romantic Naples gondola ride. Many families caught on to the thrill and ride the gondolas as well. Wonderfully located in a protected bay away from the powerful Pacific Ocean waves.

- Aliso Creek County Beach
Aliso Beach Park with it's geological features including sandy beaches, prominent rocky ridges and scenic foothills combine to form one of the most recreationally appealing areas along the entire California coast.
- Andrew Molera State Park
Still relatively undeveloped Andrew Molera State Park and offers visitors great hiking, fishing and beachcombing. Miles of equestrian trails wind through meadows, beaches and hilltops allowing visitors to enjoy much of the area on horseback. located approximately one third of a mile from the parking area. Is a primitive walk-in trail camp, popular with hikers and bikers.
- Ano Nuevo State Reserve
This Reserve is a major year round gathering area for northern elephant seals. The males compete for mates on the beaches. The females give birth to their young on the dunes. Visitors are limited to guided walks during the breeding season, December 15 through March 31with reservations recommended.
- Aquatic Park
Biird-watching, boating, hiking, and the "Dream Land for Kids" play area, as well as a habitat for bird and aquatic life are just some of the recreational activities provided at Aquatic Park.

Private and commercial fishing boats unload their catch at The historic Arena Cove Beach also known as "Point Arena Wharf". The municipal pier permits fishing with or without a fishing license. Deep sea fishing outings, boating, shops and restaurants are also available in this area also known to be one of the best surfing areas in California.
- Arroyo Burro Beach
"No pets Permitted" - a common sign at most beach entrances. Not so at Arroyo Burro Beach! Leashed dogs are allowed at this county beach and park. Thist 1/2 mile long beach with grassy picnic area welcome you and your canine friend!
- Arroyo Laguna Beach
- Asilomar State Beach
Asilomar (meaning "a refuge by the sea") State Beach and Conference Grounds is located on the Monterey Peninsula in the city of Pacific Grove.
This narrow one-mile strip of sandy beach and rocky coves includes a pedestrian trail permitting leashed and controlled dogs. Bicycle riding is allowed on the paved road bike lane in very near the trail. Be wary, there are no restrooms or picnicking facilities at the state beach. Asilomar State Beach is part of the Pacific Grove Fish Garden Refuge and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
- Avila State Beach
Popular for sightseeing, pier strolling, deep-sea fishing - and sun-worshiping the newly designed community of Avila Beach is a refreshing visit! Enjoy a soak in the natural mineral springs baths in redwood tubs which dot the tree-covered hillside. Be sure to go California whale watching at nearby Port San Luis, boat operators are available between October and March for two-hour whale-watching tours. Something you don’t want to miss!

This hideaway beach, full of friendly locals, is popular for both surfing and surf-fishing . Kelp beds and offshore reefs create habitat for a wide range of fish including the common surfperch. Fishing from shore and surf is permitted. A sand-replenishment program has made convenient hiking along this 1 1/2-mile beach extending south to Stonesteps Beach a pleasure.
- Bean Hollow State Beach
Located less than 18 miles south of Half Moon Bay, Bean Hollow State Beach offers a self-guided nature trail for easy hiking. Not a swimmers beach, as the ocean waters at Bean Hollow State Beach bring in quite a heavy surf with dangerous rip currents. However, the tide pools attract quite a few marine creatures like small crab and sea urchins. Don't forget your digital camera. This beach has some beautiful scenes that can be captured even by the novice photographer.

Separated from the Pacific Ocean by a sand spit Big Lagoon County Park is a calm and ideal park for kayaking, canoeing and row boating. Campsites are available.

The trail has been closed for several years, and is eroded and dangerous.
- Blind Beach
Blind Beach: Not recommended for novice surfers due to the heavy waves and fast barrels but if you're a pro, the peaks left and right are remarkable.
- Bluebird Beach
Located within the 7-mile stretch of Laguna Beach, Bluebird Beach is most popular with guests of the Bluebird Hotel as well as local residents. This sandy stretch has strong shore break waves and with it's several small reefs Bluebird Beach is a body surfers ideal spot.
- Boat Canyon Beach
Boat Canyon Beach is yet another beach located within the Laguna Beach strip, This small intimate beach of only 400 feet this gem of a beach is hidden from view of the busy Coast Highway. Due to the it's short length Scuba diving is quite attractive during high tide. Cautios swimming if any as there are many sharp, shallow rocks.
- Bodega Dunes
Bogeda Dunes has a string of sandy beaches known for the most impressive sand dunes in northern California extending for miles along the Atlantic Ocean coast. Recommended activities at this beach include picnicking, sunbathing, hiking.
- Bodega Head
Bodega Bay is a natural harbor resulting from movement along the San Andreas Fault.
- Bolinas Beach
- Bolsa Chica State Beach
Bolsa Chica State Beach spans three miles from Seal Beach to Huntington Beach City Pier. Although this beach is widely known for surf fishing for corbina, croaker, cabezon and sand shark and perch. Bolsa Chica is also a great place for birdwatching as well.
- Bonita Cove
The clean waters of Bonia Cove make this a perfect place for families The grassy picnic areas and playground equipment are a family's perfect match to the calm waters.
- Bowling Ball Beach
It's name says it all! Bowling Ball Beach is loaded with, well, bowling ball looking rock formations that have been cut out of the cliffs by erosion. A sight to see!
- Broad Beach
Most people visit Broad Beach for the tide pools. This private beach can be accesse by two side roads. A wonderfully peaceful place to come for an afternoon picnic.
- Brook's Beach
This rocky bottom beach is definitely more of a surf beach than anything. It has great swells for surfing.

A stretch of beach that extendes the length of the Four Seasons Biltimore Hotel.
- Cabrillo City Beach
Cabrillo City Beach complete with a public boat launching ramp, bait shop and pier. Available activities include windsurfing, volleyball courts, swimming, surfing, tidepools. Lifeguards are on the beach during daylight hours Picnicing is permitted with on site BBQ grills. Restrooms and showers are available.
- Campbell Cove

Enjoy volleyball, basketball fishing as well as and other beach activities at Capistrano Beach. Fishing gear rental and sales of food, beverages and beach supplies can be purchased at the concession building conveniently open during summer months
- Capitola City Beach
Voted a one of the top ten beaches on the west coast is Capitola City beach is a favorite for families! Located in the heart of Capitola Village, Capitola City Beach offers plenty of surfing, swimming, voleyball, kite flying as well as many other beach activities for young and old alike. There are plenty of shops and restaurants conveniently located.
- Cardiff State Beach
Located on the San Diego Coast, which has been called the Riviera of the West, Cardiff State Beach has a gently sloping sandy beach with warm water. The beach offers swimming, surfing and beachcombing. Parking is convenient and restrooms are available.
- Carlsbad City Beach
Carlsbad City Beach in San Diego County has fairly consistent surf. Not likely to be crowded even when the surf is up. Carlsbad has three picturesque lagoons, each with distinctive ecosystems.
- Carlsbad State Beach
Carlsbad State Beach is located on the San Diego Coast. It offers swimming, surfing, scuba diving, fishing and beachcombing. This small beach is located at the foot of coastal bluffs, south of the town on Carlsbad.
- Carmel City Beach
Carmel Beach, an easy walk from downtown shops, has a rugged coastline, with pine and cypress forests and countless inlets.
- Carmel River State Beach
Carmel River State Beach stretches for 106 acres along Carmel Bay. The sugar-white beach is adjacent to a bird sanctuary, where you might spot pelicans, kingfishers, hawks, and sandpipers.

Although legally two beaches, this is one long stretch of gorgeous sand, surf and dunes. Part of the beach is closed during seal birthing time because there's a nearby rookery, but most of the year there's clear and open access.
